Overview
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting older persons. Evaluating the patient on an individual basis, and determining the functional status is essential for optimal management. The type of insulin (basal, premixed and prandial) now provides flexibility to tailor treatment regimens to individual needs. In older people with diabetes, long acting insulins use can be safe and efficacious. They can be used easily with oral glucose lowering agents.
